New Points System for Student Visa in England / UK

The immigration system to England and the UK changed in March 2009. But some aspects remain the same. The main change is intended to overseas students who want to work in England and / or studying for more than six months in England and the United Kingdom. See below new changes in student visa with effect from April 2011.

First check if you need a visa (entry clearance) to enter England before travelling:

The basic rules for whether you need a visa to England (Britain / UK) currently are:

  • Tourists coming to England as a tourist for a maximum period of six months need not apply for ‘entry clearance’. Once a person between a tourist visa, it can not be extended or replaced by student visa. In this case the tourists get visitor visa (visitor), students receive a student visitor visa (student visitor) and business people receive business visitor visa (business visitor).
  • Student Visitor Visa can be obtained on arrival in England (UK) for a period of 6 months without requiring CAS or entry clearance before leaving your country. Visitors Students who are learning English and want to stay for more than 6 months and up to 11 months need to apply for pre-visa before leaving your country important to note that a student visitor visa does not allow the student to work.

New Changes to Tier 4 student visa to London, England, with effect from April 21, 2011:

At the day April 21, 2011 people who want to study in London, England with the Tier 4 student visa must make an assessment test of English. Before you apply for your entry clearance you should do a test to assess their level English. This test is called CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies), the intent of the test is to assess whether the student has an acceptable level of English to receive a student visa tier 4. The test is electronic and must be offered by a licensed English institution in which the student is studying. Basically, the English school deliver the certificate of approval of study – CAS stating that the student has the ability to study in school, ensuring a place for the student. The official form of certificate for the CAS contains 14 digits reference. Once the CAS certificate is approved, it will be valid for 6 months. If you do not apply for entry clearance during this period, you should then get a new CAS.

What is the immigration system based on points for England and the UK?

The immigration system is targeted people who want to come to the UK to study and / or work for more than six months. This system is divided into 5 rows, as follows:

  • Reque 1 – Highly skilled professionals, graduate students trained in the UK, entrepreneurs (with resources of over 200,000 pounds), investors (with resources of over 1,000,000 pounds).
  • Tier 2 – skilled workers with job offer from an employer based in the UK.
  • 3 tier – this tier is suspended (used to be used for low-skilled workers).
  • 4-tier students that have a guaranteed place in an educational institution in the UK. The duration varies since the time required to complete the course.
  • Tier 5 – temporary workers and youth mobility scheme. Maximum stay of 12 months for temporary workers and 24 months for the youth mobility scheme.All the candidates of hedgerow must obtain 30 points through the sponsorship certificate obtained by an employer (except the youth mobility scheme) and 10 points for financial maintenance (show that you have enough money to support the UK money, currently 800 lb).

How many points a student needs for pre-visa (entry clearance) to enter England as a student?

To apply for a student visa to England and the United Kingdom, the candidate must obtain 40 points. You need to show evidence of the necessary documents along with your application form.

30 points are acquired to obtain a certificate of sponsorship (sponsorship) through an educational institution. As evidence must show that the student has been accepted into a school with a letter of confirmation studies with a reference number and the documents you used to get the confirmation studies.

Working while you study in the UK

College students with NQF6 level can work for 20 hours per week during studies and full time during vacations. Other students can work for 10 hours per week and full time during vacations.

When applying for the visa ‘entry clearance’ to the UK?

You can apply for the visa application three months in advance during this period is not advisable to confirm the details of the trip until you receive the visa.

Documents required to apply for a student visa to London, England / United Kingdom

  • Current valid passport
  • Expired previous passport (if you have one)
  • Printed confirmation of your interview (if relevant – see below)
  • Form completed, signed and dated application
  • Proof printed online form submission of visa application
  • Supporting Documents: must include the originals, copies and translations –  
    • Certificate of Sponsorship (sponsorship) through an educational institution – letter from school confirming the course and CAS (Certificate of Acceptance of Studies)
    • Proof of income of the student or the student responsible for – bank statement at least 28 days
    • Certificate of English pre-intermediate level
    • Proof of accommodation
    • Biometric data (photo and fingerprint).
  • 2 photos (35mm width x 45mm height) in colour. Photos must be:
    • The background photo must be light grey or cream in focus, with good quality, without shadow.
    • The photo must be taken with nothing covering his face without sunglasses or tinted, with nothing covering his head, except for religious or medical reasons.
    • The mouth should be closed (no smile or frown without) and head straight looking ahead
    • The photo should be recent of the last 6 months.

Completion of How to Get Your Student Visa to London

If you are coming to study in London, England for over 6 months and also want to work in the UK during your stay, then you need to apply for a Tier 4 student visa before leaving your country.
